When discussing academic and behavioral disparities, the national conversation is often focused on improving conditions for African-American boys. Black girls, who grow up in the same neighborhoods and experience some of the same traumas, are often left out of the conversation. As educators, how do we effectively support our girls while challenging them to be the black girl that rocks? In this session we will discuss the intersectionality of race & gender in education & how we can challenge practices that have historically minimize the growth & development of our black girls.
